MVK Zrt. considers it important to play its part in the role of social responsibility. Every year, the company participates in numerous programmes and events in cooperation with the city of Miskolc and NGOs, as we consider it important to support each other and people in need by demonstrating ethical and solidarity behaviour, in addition to the legal requirements.
ADVENT TRAM
Every year since 2012, MVK Zrt. has been making the Advent season more festive for the travelling public with its own Advent Tram, decorated by our employees. The theme of a festive decoration is always a mystery before it rolls out of the depot. As a testament to its uniqueness, in 2023 it was voted Europe's most beautiful Advent Tram for the 7th time in an international competition organised by the Czech portal MHD86.
TESZEDD! waste collection movement
Joining the ‘TeSzedd’ - Voluntary campaign for a clean Hungary movement, the employees of our company made the surroundings of several bus terminals in Miskolc cleaner. Within the framework of the movement, anyone who wanted to join the MVK Zrt.’s team could register on the spot or at the regisztracio.szelektalok.hu website. For the collection of garbage, gloves and bags were provided by MVK Zrt.
NIGHT OF MUSEUMS
Since 2013 MVK Zrt. has joined the national Night of Museums series of events every year. On the third Saturday of June, we welcomed the public to a special open day at the company's premises located on Szondi György Street, with buses, trams, a veteran vehicle exhibition, demonstrations, concerts, and organised visits to the premises and transport history museums. In line with the traditions of the past years, the event also offered a chance to donate to charity: we collected useful pet equipment, cleaning products and usable clothing for the Második Esély Állatvédő Alapítványnak (Second Chance Animal Welfare Foundation) in Miskolc.
AID TO HELP PEOPLE LEFT IN UKRAINE
The transport company, in coordination with the President of the Ukrainian Nationality Municipality of Miskolc, started an aid campaign for Ukrainian residents and military. The long-life food products could be donated at MVK Zrt.’s Customer Service Office (3530 Miskolc, Szemere u. 5.).
CHARITY BOTTLE CAP COLLECTION
Our company has collected plastic caps on several occasions for associations that have helped families living in need and poverty with the collected and sold plastic.
CHOCOLATE COLLECTION
As part of our charity campaign, we organised a chocolate collection through the ZSÓFI-ReményVár Association to give as many children and families in need as possible a surprise chocolate bar during the end-of-year holidays. The companies that joined the chocolate collection campaign were divided into three categories based on the number of employees (1-20 employees, 21-100 employees and 101+ employees) and a competition was held to determine the "Sweetest Workplace in Hungary" in each category. MVK Zrt. entered the competition, and together with its employees, passengers, Miskolc Holding Zrt., the Miskolc Holding Property Management Directorate and MIPRODUKT Kft. collected 24.5 kg of "love chocolate", thus winning the title of Hungary's sweetest workplace in the category of over 101 employees.
GUIDE DOG SENSITIZATION TRAINING FOR THE FRONTEND STAFF OF MVK
Despite technological advances, the guide dog is still the most effective aid for visually impaired people who want to live an active life. That is why the Baráthegy Guide Dog Training School places great emphasis on raising awareness, so that more sighted people know how to behave when they meet a guide dog. The Baráthegy Guide Dog Training School held an interactive sensitization training session for the MVK team, especially for drivers and ticket inspectors. During the training session, the participants could learn about the everyday life of visually impaired people in a playful way, by experiencing their own experiences: they could try how to get around with a white cane, get on a vehicle with the help of a guide dog and take a seat, how well they can recognise different smells with blindfolded eyes, but they could also gain insight into the world of Braille writing.
THE DAY OF TRANSPORT CULTURE
11 May is not only the Day of the City of Miskolc, but also the Day of Transport Culture. The Day Of Transport Culture was created to promote safe and environmentally aware transport behaviour and a culture of tolerant, partnership-based, caring and self-aware transport. In 2023, our company wanted to raise awareness of safe transport by operating veteran vehicles.
ORGANISING BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGNS
The company has a long tradition of blood donation campaigns. Once a year, sometimes twice a year, the employees of the company and Miskolc Holding Zrt. have the opportunity to help in this way. We consider blood donation a priority, so we try to support both targeted donations for employees in need and others.
EDUCATION
The priority of Miskolci Városi Közlekedési Zrt. (Miskolc City Transport Ltd.) is to establish closer cooperation with the kindergartens and primary schools of Miskolc. To this end, we want to familiarise children with public transport and persuade them to use it in the future, as it is a significant contribution to protecting our environment. We want to continue this initiative, called “Travel with us!", with a wider range and even more diverse programme in the future.
We usually organise a visit to the company for senior primary school students facing a career choice, where the children can get to know the special fields of MVK Zrt. under the guidance of the specialists working there, for example in the tram and bus depot, the service station or the dispatch centre.
